Principal’s Splash

November 20, 2017

Greetings, Seaside!

We have a short two days before we are off for Thanksgiving break; we will have no school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 - 24.  Warm wishes to all for a restful, peaceful holiday.  We have much to be thankful for, most notably, each other.  Together, we have created a positive enriching environment for the children and the adults around them.  Seaside is a wonderful place to be because of all you do!

Thank you to the sponsors of our Veteran’s Day AssemblyThe Double Tree Care Team provided 5 dozen cookies, Coffee Bean donated 5 gallons of coffee and condiments, The Torrance Refinery helped us move all the chairs and set up, The Torrance Mounted Posse provided us with a horse (opening the eyes of children and adults who did not know the role that horses have played in the military over time), Marianne and Bob Kelchner provided a 60 foot flag, Julie Bergeron (retired Seaside teacher) donated her time and energy to help plan and practice and the Seaside teachers and staff contributed decorations and food. Everyone pitched in to make it happen.  I have heard several people comment on the beautifully unique and moving gathering.  Many said that they have never experienced anything like it.  Thank you, Mrs. Bree for leading us and dedicating yourself to our community and student learning!

The students received a Fun Assembly this past Friday.  PTA provided a magician for 3 assembly groups in the cafeteria.  Kids loved it!  Thank you, PTA, for making school a fun place to be.

Looking ahead, Achievement Reports come home on Dec. 1.  Remember that the report describes progress toward the end of the year goal.  Students will likely have earned 1s and 2s at this point.  Praise your child for their efforts and help set goals. Reflect on the progress that has been made since the beginning of the year and the good habits that have been established. Research shows that people respond best to positive feedback and rise to the expectations provided (the self-fulfilling prophecy).

Enjoy the weekend, everyone.  I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Michele Bauer-Bean

Dear Parents and Students:

The Torrance Police Department cares about your safety. Traffic is a concern of schools nationwide,
particularly as parents pick up and drop off their children. Our goal is to make this process flow in a safe
and smooth manner. We can do it with your help. Please obey all traffic laws and parking restrictions!

To improve the situation, beginning in the 2006-07 school year, we started using video cameras to record
violations near our schools. The cameras will continue to be used for the 2015-16 school year. Citations will be
mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. You don't want to become a star on our camera! Instead, help us
out by NOT picking up or dropping off in the following areas:

  • Driveways
  • Red Zones
  • No Stopping Zones
  • Double Parking
  • Crosswalks / Intersections
  • Handicapped Spaces

By following the suggestions above, we can work together to provide a safe environment for students while
avoiding citations. If you have any questions, please call us at (310) 618-5557. Remember, wear your seatbelt,
have a safe school year, and don't become a star on our camera!
